Makassar Participated in the 2016 World's Largest Game Jam Event



Smartcitymakassar.com. --Makassar- Along with 636 sites around world, Makassar participated in the world's largest Global Game Jam (GGJ) event. The event will be held from Friday (29/01/2016) to Sunday (31/01/2016). There are nine cities or locations of participants from Indonesia, where Makassar is the only one location outside Java Island.

GGJ, a non-profit based in San Luis Obispo, California, USA, is the world's largest game jam event. 'Game Jam' is a gathering of game developers who plans, designs and creates one or more games within the short range of time. The range is usually between 24 to 72 hours.

Generally, according to the description of GGJ 's website, the structure of this event is that everyone gathers on Friday late afternoon, watches a short video keynote with advice from leading game developers, and then a secret theme is announced. The sites around the world then are challenged to make games based on the same theme. They should complete it by Sunday afternoon. It is known that the jam can help fostering friendships, increase confidence and opportunities within the community.

Regarding this event, the Mayor of Makassar, Mohammad Ramdhan Pomanto, at his office, Wednesday (27/01/2016), said, "this is international event. I ask to our participants to create attractive games however with local characters. It is also our signal to the world that our human resources are now ready and that we are seriously working on 'smart city'."

In connection with the readiness, "Insha Allah, we are ready, including the place which is at Rumah Software Indonesia Makassar Techno Park (RSI-MTP) located at our office area. We have computers that are sufficient to run heavy applications as well as we have high internet connection," explained Muhammad Ismounandar, the Head of Makassar Office of Communication and Information.* (Iskandar Burhan).
