Brighter Role of Creative Economy in 2016

Central Committee of Indonesia Young Entrepreneur Association (or HIPMI) revealed that creative economy sector in Indonesia is predicted to has more strategic role in 2016. The prediction showed that this creative-based industry can contribute to around 8% of Indonesia GDP.

According to Yasser Palito, Head of Tourism and Creative Economy Field of HIPMI, great enthusiasm as well as passion from young-age workers triggered this sector to grow significantly. This young worker moves the dynamics of this sector.

From available data, such as 2014. Indonesia creative economy sector contributed to around 7.1% of total national GDP, absorbed around 12 millions workforce. This sector contributed to 5.8% of national income in 2014 and increased to 7.5% in 2015.

Viewing this trend, Yasser Palito hoped that government gives specific attention to this sector next year. This attention is important considering that the slowing-down of our export performance that come from natural resource-based commodity and that the creative economy, based on creativity and innovation, contains great potentials. Indonesia has great diversity in culture, culinary, fashion, and has great number of young-age population.  They are creative economy's raw materials.

HIPMI estimated that in 2016 will be among the five biggest national economic drivers. Up to know, creative economy sector is at the 7th position of high national income contribution, from total 19 national economic sectors, or around Rp. 573.89 trillion. In the aspect of workforce absorption contribution, this sector is at the 4th position from total 10 economic sectors.* (Iskandar Burhan)
