Smartcitymakassar.com. --Makassar- World Mayor Project, that is funded solely from philanthropies and who reject funds or donations from other parties, aims at featuring the worldwide mayors. The project also reward prize to mayors that show their significant and long-term contributions to their communities and to show their high commitments to their national or international city well being.
Almost similar
to City Mayors Foundation is the Mayor Challenge. Mayor Challenge calls for mayors’ innovative
ideas and insights about future city developments. Mayor Challenge invites mayors for a
competition. The mayors are encouraged,
provided space, and are provided strong incentives to think in a larger scale. They must think beyond their daily
responsibilities.
The competition
is about innovative, transformative or visionary idea and breakthrough. The idea must be bold, implemented, have
strong impacts, and transferable. These
leaders are encouraged to always consult with their people, social
entrepreneurs, and with other mayors as colleagues. Great and comprehensive understanding to
mayors’ insights come from this consultation.
Mayor Challenge, initiated by Bloomberg Philanthropies, has now crossed the
ocean to Europe. Previously, Mayor
Challenge is a competition event for all mayors in the USA. There are around 600 mayors in Europe was
encouraged to compete for five central themes in 2014. The theme are economic development, civic
engagement, health and welfare, social inclusion and environment.* (Riad Mustafa)
