Treading the Gate of ASEAN Economic Community (3/3)

Smartcitymakassar.com. --Makassar- “From bureaucracy side, I think Makassar is ready enough, and the previous ASEAN Mayors Forum held here is the indication of it”, said Murzan Munizu.  Nevertheless, for business and private sectors, especially Micro Small Medium Enterprises (or UMKM), AEC is both opportunities and threats. It will be opportunities for these sectors when they can have high quality and certified products – such as SNI and ISO 9001. “It will be as threats, on the contrary, in case of their low-quality products. The new emerging environment of AEC is very competitive”, stressed Murzan.

From public side, according to this lecturer for Operation Strategy, the multicultural character of Makassar communities is a sufficient condition to interact with other ASEAN communities. The spread ASEAN regional economic growth and the capacity to be able to integrate with global economic are the important conditions to enter into AEC.

However, the first and the foremost, one important and fundamental task or service of Makassar Municipality pursuing the results of AMF 2015 is to do a massive socialization to public, in all levels, including sectors in business and private, education, as well as to their own inner organisations concerning what really ASEAN Economic Community is. It certainly is that there are still many other parties or stakeholders having respective different and diverse interests to the AEC have not yet grasped or got the whole picture of the AEC ‘world’ they will face soon.

In other words, in order to enter into the AEC 2015 all the understandings, the know-how or comprehension, and the preparation steps are not solely the domains of Makassar government at all, but also of all parties or stakeholders. They must move in synergy. To this understanding, know-how or comprehension, Makassar government does not only go to the stake for its success, but also for the prosperity of all Makassar peoples.* (Makmur Gazali)
