Smartcitymakassar.com. --Makassar-
The history of Makassar city is the history of cultural and religious diversity heritage through the long process of acculturation. These diversities, in ethnic, tradition, and religions and believes, and indeed culinary, enrich the colours of this city. The tolerant and open place has been the centuries-old character of Makassar.

Since the Mayor of Makassar, Mohammad Ramdhan Pomanto, has proclaimed Smart City dan Sombere’ (Smart City and Sympathy) as the key program of Makassar, lots of efforts, innovative breakthroughs, came together. Under the smart combination of the modern (Smart City) concept and long centuries of legacy (varied sources of localities), the program has unique and specific touch. The diversity, the colours of traditions and cultures, that Makassar has, comes from long historical process. They are the cornerstone of the smart city, future, of Makassar.

From historical perspective, the pillars of Smart City concept is centuries old. Makassar was part of Gowa Kingdom's territories. Mpu Prapanca mentioned Makassar in his book called 'Negarakretagama Pupuh XIV'. The book describes that Majapahit Kingdom colonised an area called Makassar. Under the ruler of The 9th King of Gowa, Karaeng Tumaparisi Kallonna (1510-1546), Makassar became famous. Makassar was part of Gowa Kingdom.

The great and future vision of King of Karaeng Tumaparisi Kallonna put Makassar into the golden glory. The king moved the government centre from hinterland to coastal area, then built a fort located at the estuary of Je'neberang River. There, the King put a harbormaster who controls the all activities in trades.* (Muhammad Yushar)
